The restoration started in 1996 when
Mrs. Heleen Gouws a qualified interior designer in Middelburg purchased the
house from Mrs. Hammond.

It's an ongoing process due to the age of the house, and restoration at The Gables is continuously done.

This year (2008) some of the wooden floors inside the house had to be replaced.
